Eliza Knapton’s family, the Trinhams, were the first orchardists in Upper Beaconsfield. Corporal Knapton’s brother, Leslie Knapton, operated an orchard in Stoney Creek Road for many years, and it then passed to his eldest son, Bill Knapton, until Bill Knapton sold it after the Ash Wednesday bushfires. Corporal Knapton embarked on HMAT Euripides, A14, on 10/5/1915, from Melbourne, survived Gallipoli then went on to France. He died on 11/1/1917, in France, aged 23.6 |
