"Highton" is the beautiful home lent by Mr. and Mrs. Doery during the war as a rest home for the wounded soldiers, and is surrounded by spreading lawns and flower beds. It never fails to claim the interest of those who pass along the Balwyn-road.
The crowded church was banked with ferns and flowers, and there was a choral service. The Rev. T. E. Ruth, of Collins street, assisted by the Rev. A. Shaw, of the Auburn Church, performed the ceremony at 6.30 p.m. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore ivory cashmere de sole, veiled with Limerick lace. From the shoulders fell a court train trimmed with pearls and orange blossom and lined with meltings of pale pink geogette. The veil was held in place by an orange blossom wreath, and she carried a bouquet of pink and white dahlias. The bridegroom's gift was a gold wristlet watch. Miss Dorothy Williams and Miss Esla Doery attended in frocks of pale pink silk and georgette, beaded in white. They carried posies of pink carnations, and wore the bridegroom's gifts hand-painted brooches. Little Edith Webb made a pretty trainbearer, in pale blue frilled crepe de chine. Mr. Wilford Johnson was bridegroom and Mr. Hector Spencer (bother of the bridegroom) groomsman.
The guests numbering about 150, were afterwards entertained at "Highton," the grounds beautifully illuminated with coloured electric lights and Chinese lanterns. Mrs Edward Doery, who received in the drawing-rooms, was gownedn fawn figured crepe-de-chine, with panels of radium lace. Her ... toque had a smart ostrich feather's mount. Supper was served in a beautifully decorated marquee on the lawn, and was accompanied by the usual toasts and some musical items, those contributing were Mrs. Norman Moore, Mrs. Bamford, Mr. Norman Spencer, the Messrs Prof. and Mr F.
