    The orthodox satin and orange blossom was discarded by Miss Doris M'Laurin, third daughter of the late Mr A. J. M'Laurin, of Moroco Station, Deniliquin, and Mrs M'Laurin of Halstead street, Caulfield, when she plighted her troth to Mr Theyre Pelham Chase, eldest son of the Rev. A Pelham Chase and Mrs Chase, of William's road, Toorak on Wednesday at St. John's Church, Toorak.
    The bridegroom's father, assisted by the Rev. A. W. Tonge, officiated. A draped frock of mastic satin charrmeuse, with a suggestion of petal pink georgette on the corsage, proved very becoming to the bride, with a hat in the same tones, draped with silver tissue, and finished with streamer ends.
    Her posy was composed of water lilies and pink sweet peas. Her little sister, Miss Kathleen M'Laurin was bridesmaid. She wore a mauve crepe Georgette frock and a large mauve bow finished her pretty cream hat. She carried a posy of yellow roses and pansies.
    Mr Eric Backhouse attended the bridegroom.

    Last Wedensday afternoon Miss Doris McLaurin, daughter of Mrs. McLaurin, "Bungooka," Caulfield, and the late Mr. McLaurin, who had big pastoral interests in N.S.W., went through the marriage service at the altar in St. John's, Toorak, with Mr. Theyre Chase, son of Canon and Mrs. Pelham Chase, of Williams Road, Toorak. The young man's mother was a member of the Weigall family, while the name of Chase has been well known in Victoria since the very early days. Doris McLaurin Chase is a tall and good-looking brunette, and fond of the country life; in fact, she took up horticulture in earnest, and went through the accepted course of instruction.     The marriage of Mr. Edward Alfred Graham, son of Mr. Edward Graham, of "Ardhu," Royal Park, Melbourne, and Miss Elsie M'Laurin, third daughter of the late Mr. J. W. M'Laurin, of Moroco Station, near Deniliquin, took place on Wednesday morning, 10th April, at the Presbyterian Church, Deniliquin, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. R. Welsh. The bride, who was given away by Mr. O. Falkiner, of Perricoota, wore a trained dress of white brocade. The bodice had a tucked chiffon front and was richly trimmed with Limerick lace; and banging from the bodice, caught with orange blossom, were chiffon streamers finished with pearls. The skirt wass plain, with the exception of a few tucks and a silver braid round the hem. A veil and spray of orange blossom were worn. The bridesmaids were Miss M'Laurin and Miss Annie M'Laurin (sisters of the bride), and Miss Graham (sister of the bridegroom). They wore white silk frocks, tucked and trimmed with Valenciennes lace and insertion, and fichus caught on one side with black rosettes. The skirts had tucked flounces edged with lace and bands of insertion; white felt hats trimmed with white tulle and silk, with large silver buckle in front. The bridal shower bouquet was of exotics intermingled with ferns, with broad satin streamers on which were the bride and bridegroom's initials in silver. The bridesmaids' bouquets were violets and purple pansies, intermingled with autumn leaves from which hung heliotrope streamers, with the bride and bridegroom's initials in silver letters. Each of the bridesmaids wore pearl and turquoise brooches, which, with the bouquets, were the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. W. Graham (brother of the bridegroom) acted as best man. After the ceremony the happy couple were driven to Tattersall's Hotel, where Mr. and Mrs. O. Falkiner held a reception, the following ladies' and gentlemen being present: —Mr. and Mrs. Edward Graham, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. M'Laurin, Mr. and Mrs. R. W.   • 3 Nov 1922: CONTRACT RESCINDED. Apartment House Case. In Robe Street, St. Kilda.
    Last week three days were occupied by Judge Woinarski in hearing an action brought by Mary Jane Mc Kinnon against Elsie Graham for the recission of a contract of sale, and damages for wilful misrepresentation with respect to an apartment house in Robe street, St. Kilda. Evidence for the plaintiff was that the apartment house was sold by Mrs. Graham to Mrs. Mc Kinnon for £750, on the statement that the profits averaged £5 per week. Mrs. McKinnon paid £350, and then discovered that the profits were considerably less than £5 a week. She therefore refused to pay further instalments. For the defence it was contended that if there had been misrepresentation in any way it had not been intentional.
    Judge Woinarski said that there was evidence of misrepresentation, but he believed that it had not been wilful. He made an order rescind ing the contract of sale, and for the return of all moneys paid by Mrs. McKinnon, less £12 as an allowance to Mrs. Graham for the costs of removal, etc. A stay of seven days was granted.18
  • 27 Mar 1923: SALE OF APARTMENT HOUSE. Judgment Upheld.
    Before Judge Woinarski, in the County Court some time ago Mary Jane McKinnon, of 47 Robe street, St Kilda sued Elsie Franklyn Graham of 39 Robe street, St Kilda, claiming recission of an agreement to purchase the goodwill, lease, and furniture of an apartment house. The agreement was made on July 2, of last year, and it provided for the sale to Mrs Mckinnon of the apartment house in Robe street for £750.
    The ground of the action was that the defendant (Mrs Graham) had falsely misrepresented the takings of the place to be £5 a week above all expenses. She also (according to Mrs McKinnon) represented that there was a three years' lease. Judge Woinarski found for the plaintiff (Mrs McKinnon), on the ground that there had been innocent misrepresentation.
    Agaimt this there was an appeal to the Full Court of Victoria, consisting of Mr Justice Schutt, Mr Justice Mann, and Mr Justice McArthur. In a reserved Judgment yesterday the Court held that the appeal should be dismissed. A submission on behalf of the defendant appellant that the plaintiff respondent had affirmed the purchase, and paid £350 of the pur chase money after the alleged misrepresentation had been discovered was set aside on the ground that after the period the plaintiff discovered further misrepresentation. The appeal was dismissed with costs.
    Mr Jacobs (instructed by Mr H T McKean) appeared for the appellant (Mrs Graham); and Mr McInnes (instructed by Messrs Pitcher and Orames) for the plaintiff respondent.19
