  • 14 Aug 1920: OBITUARY. MR. DAVID BOYD.
    After a stroke, which eventuated on Thursday last, and a period of unconsciousness, Mr. David Boyd, of 'Middrie,' Richardson street, Middle Park, died on Sunday last at the ripened age of 82 years. Deceased, who was regarded in latter years as one of the district's most wealthy men, came to South Melbourne some 60 years ago, and after working at the carriage building trade established the agency business in Bank street, with which he was associated till his death. Deceased was a man of retiring disposition, but made numberless friends, it being said of him that if he could not do another a good turn, he would never do him a bad one. He was a member of the leading racing clubs, and was more particularly known in turf circles as the owner of Sandown Park racecourse. The late Mr. Boyd leaves a widow and a grown-up family of seven children. His remains were interred at St. Kilda Cemetery on Tuesday, and the large attendance, together with the astounding collection of wreaths, etc., testified to the esteem in which he was held.28
  • 16 Oct 1920: DECEASED ESTATE AGENT. WILL LODGED FOR PROBATE. The will and two codicils of the late Mr. David Boyd, of Richardson street, South Melbourne, estate agent, who died on August 8, have been lodged for probate. Testator left real estate valued at £27,240 and personal property valued at £35,418—a total of £62,658 — to his widow and children.29
