  • 12 Jan 1875: Another inquest was held the same day by Mr. Candler at Berwick, on the body of Benjamin Turner, aged 64 years, in the employ of Alexander Crichton, grazier. On the 5th inst., he was standing holding an entire horse. He was heard to groan, and seen to fall, and he said the horse "gave him both heels in the stomach." He walked away to his bed, but said he was not much hurt. A doctor was sent for, but just after he arrived the deceased died. The deceased was used to horses, and was rather reckless with them. Mr. Elmes, surgeon, stated his opinion that the causs of death was internal bleeding. The jury found that the deceased died from internal hæmorrhage, from the kick of a horse, and expressed the opinion that the occurrence was accidental.5
