Newspaper-Articles

  • 10 Jul 1926: OUR DISTRICT. From Doris McSweeney, who lives at Berwick. — Berwick is situated about 28 miles from Melbourne and eight miles from Dandenong, on the Eastern Gippsland line. It is not a very large town, but a very pretty one, especially in the spring. Most people have nice green paddocks surrounded with hawthorn hedges. These look very pretty at any time of the year, either when the leaves, the blossoms, or the bessies are on them. There are also very pretty wattles and other native trees along the little creek. The principal industry here is dairying. There is also a cheese factory. It is a very nice place for a week-end holiday, and numbers of people from the city come out here on the Sunday train to gather gum-tips and flowers.
(The flowers must be lovely in springtime, Doris. I have been to Berwick once.—Aunt Connie).7
