  • 12 Jan 1949: Death Of Another Old Harkaway Identity
    HARKAWAY’S grand old band of pioneers continues to dwindle. On December 28th Mrs. Agnes Amelia Louise Nichol, of “Ailsa Craig,” Kings Rd., Harkaway, passed on in her 93rd year. Although born at Richmond she came to live at Harkaway when only six months, her parents being the late John Martin and Johanna Fritzlaff.
    Harkaway has been her home ever since. At 22 she was married to James Craik Nichol, who pre-deceased her in 1883.
    She is survived by two sons, James Alexander and Frederick James, and a daughter-in-law Marjorie.
    The whole district mourns the passing of a kindly and friendly soul and shares the sorrow of her family.
    The funeral to the Harkaway Cemetery on December 30th was a large one and there were many lovely floral tributes from district friends.
    Rev. J. J. W. Scott conducted the service at the home and graveside. Pall-bearers were Crs. A. G. Robinson and G. Rae and Messrs. A. Decker, H. Wanke, K. McKenzie, N. Beaumont, J. and T. Richards, A. Baker and M. Noack.
    Funeral arrangements were in the hands of W. J. Garnar and Son.9
