Saunders, whose lease of the Cardinia Park Hotel has expired, and who is leaving the district, was tendered a farewell social on Thursday evening, 4th inst. Captain Surplice, president of the Returned Soldiers’ branch, occupied the chair, and explained that Mr. Saunders, who was a returned soldier, and was a vice-president of the branch, had always been ready to help the movement in every possible way. Mr. Saunders had also been connected with the Angling Club, and he (the

Mr. Tonks said that Mr. Saunders had been the first secretary of the Angling Club, and had been an active member for some time. All regretted Mr. Saunders’ departure, but wished him every success, in his new sphere.
The Chairman then called on Mr. C. Harris, a vice-president of the Soldiers’ League; Mr. F. Fritzlaff, vice-president of the Angling Club, Cr. S. A. Greaves (also a returned soldier), and Mr. J. S. Loveridge, who endorsed the remarks of the previous speakers, after which Mr. Harris, on behalf of the Returned Soldiers and the Angling Club, made a suitable presentation to Mr. Saunders, and conveyed to him the best wishes of his many friends at Berwick.
Mr. Saunders, in response, thanked those who had spoken, arid those who had taken part in the gathering, and acknowledged gift he had received.7
