Land-Note | 6 Jan 1883 | The Lands Officer. Sir, Herewith we forward plan, field notes &c. W Johnston 10914/19. The Northern boundary has been carried straight to Cardinia Creek instead of as originally surveyed. This was done at request of Mr Albert and other residents in order to ease the approach to a bridge a little higher up the creek. Our measurement of the Eastern boundary differs slightly from original survey. Yours faithfully, Bruford & Braim.3 |
Land-Note | Mar 1890 | Report by Police (Land Inspection) I beg to inform that Mr Johnson has had sickness in his family, his wife being very ill for some time past and that he states is the reason he has fallen back in his rents. He will pay next week and the week after.4 |
Land-Note | Jun 1890 | Beaconsfield, June. To the Secretary for Lands. Sir, I received an acount from the land office for £9.19.0 for witch at Present I am not able to meet unless I am alowed to Morgage the land and get some money by doin so. I came here I thought well prepared to make a home. I brought nine young cows two horses dray and implements and some ready money. The cows have all died except one and I have had three horses die also the land is so very poor that I have not been able to sell any produce from it it will not grow anything unless with plenty of menuer witch is very hard to be got it take me all my time to grow hay for the horses and a little green feed for the two or three cows I have got left. The walabys hares and ... take half of it and destroy nealy all I work very hard all day and then i have to be up half the night to keep them away there is no one growing anything within a mile of me the land is nearly all in the hands of the non resident and they do nothing towards keeping the walabys hares and rabits down I must ask for at least three months unless I am alowed to morgage I remain yours & c William Johnson.4 |
Land-Note | 2 Sep 1890 | GEM-D-60: Mortgagee: William Johnson took out a mortgage from Anne Jane Robertson. Mortgagor was William Johnson.5 |
Land-Note | 29 Apr 1895 | Secr for Lands, Dear Sir, A Mr Johnson who has 106 acres at Gembrook called on us recently and asked us to pay his rent for him to the crown, and we offered to pay a years rent (£5.6.0) for him, he returned next day and stated that the Dept had agreed to take the years rent and not go to extremes, but upon our sending up the money last week, it was declined and the answer came back it was in the hands of the Crown Prosecutor. We think this is a very hard case, Johnson is a poor, old, grey headed man, at present trying to earn a living by fossicking at Rushworth; the old man was so frightened at the notices he received from the Dept that he tramped all the way to Melbourne, made the above arrangements and then tramped back. The years rent will be paid by us if we get notice to pay it. Yours truly, John McEwan & Co.4 |
Land-Note* | 31 Jan 1896 | Secretary for Lands. Sir, With reference to this circular, I will today pay your rents (£10.12.0), and the balance as I am able, and in as short a time as possible. Unfortunately I have been out of work for 2 years, and have been unable to make a living from the farm. It is my intention to go prospecting at Queenstown, and if successful will pay off arrears. Yours, W Johnson.4 |
