On tbe 7 th June, At St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Berwick, a marriage was celebrated by tbe Rev. Father Gleeson, of Dandenoog, the contracting parties being Mr. John Nix, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Nix, of Trafalgar, and Ellen Veronica, third daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Kennedy, of Pine Hurt, Officer, late of Trafalgar.
The bride, who was given away by her father, was tastefully gowned in white silk, the bodice being tucked and inlet with insertion and trimmed with calencinnes lace. A wreath and veil were also worn, and the bride also carried a white prayer book, the gift of her cousin.
The bridesmaids were the Misses A. Kennedy and B. Nix, sisters of the bride and bridegroom respectively.
The former was attired in pale blue, the latter in cream, and both wore charm pins with hearts attached, the gifts of the bridegroom.
Mr M. Nix supported his brother as best man, and Mr P. F. Nix groomsman.
After the ceremony an adjournment was made to the residence of the bride's parents, where the wedding breakfast was served to about 40 guests—the relations and intimate friends of the contracting parties.
After the repast there were several toasts duly honored, the Rev. Father Gleeson being chairman.
The happy couple left by the evening train for Melbourne, amidst a shower of rose leaves and good wishes. The bride travelled in navy blue silk, trimmed with silk brading and relieved with a cream lace yoke, and blue velvet hat to match, with blue and white feathers and gold trimming.
In the evening the bride's parents entertained a large assembly of guests at a dance in the school room at Officer, and dancing was indulged in with great spirit until midnight, when supper was served, and dancing was resumed till the small hours of the morning, when everybody retired tired but well pleased.
A large number of presents, (too numerous to mention) were received, both costly and useful.
The bride wore a handsome gold brooch, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridegroom wore a gold watch, the gift of the bride.8
