  • 29 Mar 1950: Local Move for Permanent Reservation of Cardinia Creek Reserve
FOLLOWING a meeting of interested local residents at his home, Mr. D. Avery, “Green Acres,” Berwick, wrote suggesting that council call a public meeting with the obect of obtaining the permanent reservation of the whole of the Cardinia Creek reserve and the appointment of a local committee of management.
Crs. Robinson and Whiteside moved that a copy of the letter be sent to the. Lands’ Department.
Cr. Whiteside pointed out that it might be a bit premature to call a meeting just yet. They had already asked the Lands’ Department not to issue any further lease for the area when the present lease expired in April. It was encouraging to find so many citizens' interested in preserving the area.
Cr. Greaves: We are entitled to appoint a committee for the present reserve.
Cr. Whiteside: I think the Department is very sympathetic to our claims for the reservation of the whole area.9
