  • 18 May 1916: The Rev. G. J. and Mrs Richmond. Saturday's Melbourne dailies contained a golden wedding announcement of much interest to many in Kyneton; namely that of the Rev. G. J. Richmond and Mrs Richmond, of 5 Scott street, Canterbury. Mr and Mrs Richmond were married at Rowena Parade, Richmond, on the 10th May, 1866 by the Rev. J. C. McMicheal. Mrs Richmond being the daughter of the late Mr Geo. Coltherd, Melbourne.
    At that time Mr Richmond was the minister of the Kyneton Congregational Church, the pulpit of which he again filled after being for very many years founder and principal of Prospect
    House Academy, now Kyneton College. Almost the whole of this lengthy period Mr and Mrs Richmond have lived in Kyneton, only removing to Melbourne a few years back when Mr Richmond resigned the pastorate of the Kyneton church. Although feeling the weight of years, Mr Richmond is comparatively strong, though at present Mrs Richmond's health is giving cause for anxiety. Their many friends in Kyneton district will congratulate them very heartily upon their fiftieth wedding anniversary and wish them years of continued health and happiness. Mr and Mrs Richmond have three daughters and two sons: Mr Lindsay Richmond, of Wangaratta ; Private Herbert Richmond, on active service; Mrs Bedford, of Canterbury Mrs Max Castles, of Colac, and Mrs Leslie Castles, of Colac, and six grandchildren.   • 6 Jul 1904: A nephew of Mr. Walker of Manuka Park had a nasty experience last Friday. He was riding past the Shire Hall, Berwick, his pony shied and threw him, and started off for home, one foot of the boy being caught in the stirrup. In this position he was dragged for nearly mile. As they passed Mr. Cameron's place, the pony gaining pace, Mr. Hugh Cameron who was in the garden, kicked off his boots and gave chase, heading the animal off on to the Beaconsfield road. Mr. Alf. Shorthouse who was near the intersection of roads at the Gippsland Hotel, noticed them approaching ran to meet them on the bridge, and making a dexterous spring on to the pony's neck brought it to a standstill. It was just in time, as the boy was exhausted with keeping his head off the ground, which he had managed to do all the time. His body was fearfully cut and lacerated, and after being attended to and rested at the hotel he led his horse home. Mr. Cameron, who had come up to the scene of rescue, after being assumed that all was well, made the best of his way back through the mud and rain which was falling heavily. , Alfred George Shorthouse Hugh Cameron15
  • 2 Feb 1910: Last week a very pleasant function took place at "Hemmingford," the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Force. During the season visitors to "Manuka House" have been in the habit of using the tennis court at "Hemmingford" as that of the local club was out of repair, and it was as a token of appreciation that they presented Mr. and Mrs. Force with a copper flower bowl. The occasion was made pleasant by complimentary speeches, and the reciprents made it evident that a degree of the pleasure derived was shared by them.16

  • 4 Jul 1912: Clearing Sales. Wednesday, June 26. Adamson Strettle & Co. report holding a clearing sale on account of Mr. Robert Walker, "Manuka," Berwick, on the above date, when they disposed of the whole of his 11 rooms of furniture, horses, cattle, implements and sundries to a very large attendance of buyers, and a satis factory sale resulted.19
  • 1 Jun 1916: "Manuka," the well known boarding house, the property of Mr Walker, has been purchased by Mr Cotell, who has sold "Minara," his own property, to a New Zealand buyer. Harry Cottell20
