Book* | Flannagan, Leonard John, Melbourne, a native of Richmond, Victoria, son of the late Mr. John Flannagan, an architect of nearly forty years' standing, was educated at St. James' grammar school. He is a member of the Victorian Institute of Architects, and entered his articles with his father in 1880. In 1885 he commenced business for himself as architect and surveyor, which he now carries on at 75 Chancery-lane. Mr. Flannagan was awarded the third prize in tho competition for Grace Park, Hawthorn, and has erected a number of private residences in the suburbs. His father, the late Mr. John Flannagan, was very successful in competitive designs, chief among which was the one for the Eastern Market, while for the Bank of Victoria and tho National Bank of Austalasia he received second awards, and many other first prizes.1 | |

He was for many years one of three architects for the Metropolitan Board of Works. He was a former councillor and president of Mornington Shire. Mr Flannagan is survived by a widow and two children-a son, Leonard Noel, and a daughter, Doris (Mrs Hartridge).6 |

Frank Stanley Dobson

Book* | Dobson, Hon. Frank Stanley, B.A., LL.D. (Cam.), F.L.S. (Lon.), M.L.C., is a son of the late Mr. John Dobson, of Hobart Town, Tasmania, but formerly of Carrhill Hall, Durham, England. He was born in Tasmania in 1835, and was educated first at the Hutchins' school there, and then at St. John's college, Cambridge, where he graduated as B.A. in 1858. He was called to the bar (Middle Temple) in 1860, and coming to Victoria, engaged in the practice of his profession at the common law bar, and was appointed law lecturer at the Melbourne university in 1863. He has been a member of the Legislative Council from 1869 up to the present time, and has been for several years chairman of committees in that body, Solicitor-General in the ministry of Sir Bryan O'Loghlen from 1881 to 1883. He is a Fellow of the Linnean society, member of the Oxford and Cambridge club, Pall Mall, an official visitor of the Melbourne Observatory, a Trustee of the Melbourne Public Library, an M.A. of the University of Melbourne, an examiner in French and German in that body, and ex-president of the Field Naturalists' Club of Victoria. He was for some years the representative for Belvoir in the Church of England assembly.1 | |
