(Tillie) Goodfellow, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Goodfellow, of Helen street, Northcote, took place at St. Michael's Church of England Prince's Hill, on Tuesday, June 30.
A coronet of pearls and brilliants secured her flowing veil of cut tulle, which softened the effect of her ivory chenille embossed georgette gown, and long court train of silver tissue lined with ivory georgette and bordered with marabout. A bouquet of cream azaleas and roses was carried.
Miss Jessie Tomlinson and the twin sister of the bride, Misses Thelma and Doris Goodfellow, were a trio of charming bridesmaids. Their simple frocks of apricot lame were flnished with gold lace, and each carried a dainty posy of mauve pansies. Mr. E. Hunt was best man and Messrs. Arthur Smith and George Froggitt groomsmen.
After the ceremony about seventy guests were entertained at the Northcote Town Hall, and later the bride and groom left for Warburton, where the honeymoon was spent. The former travelled in a cinnamon jacquard marocain frock with a small duvetyn hat to match.

  • 17 Jan 1860: Death of brother: HUMAN REMAINS FOUND IN THE DANDENONG RANGES.
On Thursday, the 5th inst., a wood-cutter, whilst searching for water in an isolated and un-frequented spot in the Dandenong Ranges, discovered a human skeleton, and several articles of wearing-apparel on the ground. On the following day he gave information to the police, who went to the spot indicated, and there found the skeleton, which was apparently that of a little boy, eight or nine years of age.
Inquiries were at once instituted, when, by means of the fragments of clothes found, the remains were identified as those of a boy named Vieusseux, who was lost on the evening of the 2nd of January, 1858, at a picnic, which took place a few miles from the spot where the bones were discovered.
The District Coroner (Dr. Candler) held an inquest on the remains on Saturday last, at the Belvidere Hotel, when the following evidence was adduced:—Edward Augustus Decimus Browne, a merchant residing at No. 61 Temple-court, said, - On the 2nd of January, 1858, I went to the Ferntree Gullies, near Dandenong, with a party of five or six others, on a picnic. The deceased boy and his mother (Mrs. Vieusseux) were of the party. We lunched at the head of the gully, after which the gentlemen went to the top of the range. I remained behind with Mrs. Vieussoux and the deceased. We remained there together for some time after the others' departure up the mountain. We then set off together to return to Mr. Lydiard's hut, where we had slept the night before. Mrs. Viousseux placed the deceased boy on an old stock horse that she had been riding. The boy went on ahead, walking the horse. The horse walked faster than Mrs. Vieusseux and myself, but we overtook him at a slip-rail, where he had got off the horse to open the rail. I opened the rail, and Mrs. Vieusseux put the boy on the horse again. We followed him, but he went out of sight in the turnings of the road. In sight of the homestead where we were going we missed the deceased. I thought he had gone on to Mr. Lydiard's hut. I therefore went there, but found the boy had not arrived. I then went back at once to a splitter's hut on the road, and on looking round about we found the horse by the side of the track, grazing quietly, but the boy could nowhere be seen. We commenced searching everywhere, and in a short time the whole party came down from the mountain, and we all renewed our search in every direction, but the deceased could not be found. Mr. Vieusseux, the boy's father, was of the party. The search was continued until nightfall. We lighted fires on the hill, and shouted where we thought the boy must be. The search was continued the next day, with a great addition of people; both on foot and on horseback.
It was kept up daily for at least a week, and at different periods for a fortnight afterwards in every direction, but no trace or tidings could be discovered.
The deceased could sit a stock horse tolerably well. The horse he was riding was a quiet old stock horse. It had not been galloping, but was found quietly grazing. I have seen the spot where the body of the deceased was found. It is almost inaccessible from the place where the boy was lost. The country is a perfect jungle. It is almost impossible to get through it. There was a watercourse near where the body was found. The remains were found accidentally, by a splitter looking for water.
Louis Alexis Stephen Vieusseux, sworn, said, - I reside in Melbourne. The deceased was my son.
He was seven and a half years old at the time he was lost. I have visited the spot where the boy was found, in the Dandenong Ranges. It is about 10 or 12 miles from the place where he was lost.
I saw the remains now shown to the jury, together with the clothes now produced. I identify them positively as those worn by the deceased at the time he was lost.
Edward Barker, a surgeon, residing in La Trobe street, Melbourne, sworn, said, - I have made an examination of the portions of the skeleton now shown to the jury. I find five of the lumbar vertebrae, two of the dorsal; the seventh or eighth rib of the left side, two ibia, two femurs with the epiphysis off, and two tibiae. All the bones were without epiphyses, also the two armbones, a portion of the upper part of the left ulnar. The skull is nearly perfect. It has the
central incisor of the right side uncut. I am of opinion that the bones are those of a child between seven and nine years of age. There are no marks of violence on any portions of the bones.
The jury returned a verdict that on the 5th January, 1860, the remains of the deceased were found in the Dandenong Ranges, with no marks of violence upon them, and added that there was no evidence to show the cause of the deceased's death.5
  • 10 Apr 1889: Cricket ... After the match the teams (at the invitation of Messers. Vieussieux and Biccard) sat down to a splendid dinner at Mrs. Bain's, which was served up in that lady's best style. ... Francois Louis Charles Thalman Biccard6
  • 12 Jun 1919: Berwick. The tablet erected on the grave of the late Edward Vieusseux, by past pupils of the Berwick Grammar school, was unveiled on Monday. In spite of the inclement weather there was a large gathering of boys, as a mark of the esteem in which they held their old master and friend. The strong personality of the late Mr Vieusseux has left its stamp on the many boys who gained their tuition from him.7
