  • 19 May 1943: Berwick Resident Celebrates 90th Birthday
THE HOME of Mr. Joshua Jones, of Berwick, was the scene of a very happy gathering on Wednesday evening last, when his family and several friends met there to wish him “Many Happy Returns" of his 90th birthday. Mr. Jones received many useful gifts, also letters and telegrams of congratulation on reaching such a grand old age. His grand-daughter, Marjorie McLennan, of Dandenong, made and presented him with a cake which had been beautifully decorated by a friend. After supper had been served, the guest of honor thanked everyone for coming along and making the evening such a happy one. Although 90 years of age, Mr. Jones still drives into the town to do the shopping and also does messages for his neighbors.38
  • 16 Feb 1944: Death Of 90-year-old Berwick Identity
A NATIVE of Wales (he was born at Troedyraw), who came to reside in Victoria when he was a young man of 24, Joshua Jones, 90-year-old resident of Upper Beaconsfield road, Berwick, passed to his reward at his home last Saturday. A fine old gentleman of amazing vitality, he had been in ill health for some time but his end was nevertheless not expected.
He and his wife (formerly Miss Mary Helen Cameron), who pre-deceased him 12 years ago, were married at Kensington 57 years ago. For 23 years they resided at Stony Creek, being of the pioneer families there. Deceased, who was a retired farmer, lived at Berwick for the past 33 years and was held in very high regard. For many years he was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and though he retired from that office some years ago, he had, up to a few months ago, been a regular attendant at the church.
He is mourned by one son (Allan, of Berwick), and two daughters, Mary (Mrs. Colls), and Flora (Mrs. R. K. McLennan), of Dandenong. The remains were privately interred in the family grave last Monday, Cr. J. J. Gardiner, president of the Berwick Shire, joining the relatives at the graveside. Rev. C. Jones conducted a service at the home and graveside and paid a high tribute to the late Mr Jones.
Funeral arrangements were in the hands of W. J. Garnar and Son.39
