  • 14 Mar 1942: Sergeant James Donald Wynn
    Information has been received from the Record Office by Mr. James William Wynn of 15 Dale Street, Milnrow, that according to records his eldest son, Sergeant James Donald Wynn of the Intelligence Corps, was serving in Malaya when the garrison at Singapore capitulated on February 15th. Every endeavour is being made through diplomatic and other channels to obtain information concerning him and it is hoped that he is safe, although he may be a prisoner of war. Meanwhile he is posted as missing. Sergeant Wynn, who has been in the Regular Army for seven years, for the last six years has served abroad. He is twenty-five years of age and previous to joining the Army was employed at the Dale Spinning Company, Rochdale.18
  • 21 Oct 1942: News of Warrant Officer Wynn
    A postcard bearing Japanese symbols on the address side has been received by Mrs. Jessie Heap of 7 Carlton Street, Sudden, from her brother, Warrant Officer James Donald Wynn of the Intelligence Corps, who was reported missing following the capitulation of the Singapore garrison. The message on the card reads: " I am a prisoner of war. Don't worry. Safe and well, and I am being well treated." Warrant Officer VVynn is 25 years of age and formerly worked at the Dale Mill. He was in the Regular Army when war broke out, and has been abroad about seven years. His father, Mr. James William Wynn, lives at 15 Dale Street, Milnrow.19
  • 22 Sep 1945: More Men on Way Home
    Many more cables have been received in Rochdale during the week from local men who have been prisoners of war in Japanese hands intimating that they have been freed and hope to be home soon. Some of the messages have come from India, and others from Rangoon and Ceylon. In almost all the cases the men have been prisoners since the fall of Singapore in February, 1942. The names are as follows: Sergeant James Donald Wynn, Intelligence Corps, son of Mr. J. W. Wynn, of 15 Dale Street, Milnrow.20
