David Gaunson

Book* | Gaunson, David, M.L.A., Melbourne, was born in Sydney, N.S.W 19th January, 1846, being the fourth son of Mr. Francis Gaunson. He was educated at Sydney and at Brighton, Victoria, until May 1862, when he entered the office of his brother-in-law, the Hon. James Macpherson Grant, who gave him his articles of clerkship. In he was admitted to practice as an attorney of Victoria. In 1871, at the general election, he contested Dundas against the Minister of Lands, and then against the Minister of Railways, but was unsuccessful on both occasions. In 1872, on the resignation of the Duffy Government, he opposed the Hon, J. G. Francis, Chief Secretary, at Richmond, and was again defeated, but in 1875 he attempted to secure a seat for Ararat, and succeeded. He was again successful at Ararat two years later, and now represents South Melbourne in the Assembly. Mr. Gaunson is a Liberal and a protectionist. As a solicitor he enjoys a large private practice, and has offices at Eldon Chambers, Chancery-lane, his private residence being at St. Kilda.1 | |
