  • 29 Oct 1903: A CRUSHED KNEE.
A nasty accident happened yesterday to a youth of 18 years named Joseph Naughton, a resident of Cockatoo Creek, Gippsland, who was working on the narrow-gauge railway line at that place. Naughton was engaged in loading timber into a railway truck, and having completed the loading he went upon the line for the purpose of coupling the truck to an "empty" which was brought up by an engine. As the two trucks came together he was caught by the knee between the buffers, and his knee was terribly crushed. Naughton was brought into Melbourne by train, and was conveyed to the Hospital, where a bed was found for him.4
  • 7 Jun 1928: IN MEMORIAM.
NAUGHTON.—In loving memory of our dear brother, Joe, who passed away on 7th June, 1927.
    Peacefully sleeping, resting at last,
The world's weary, troubles are passed,
In silence he suffered, in patience he bore,
'Till God took him home to suffer, no more.
    — Inserted by his sister and brothers and sister-in-law, Mary, Pat, Peter and Lill.
NAUGHTON.—In loving memory of my dear husband, and our dear father, who passed away on 7th June, 1927. A tender chord of memory is deeply touched to-day.
    — Inserted by his loving wife and family, Jack and Edna.5
