  • 23 Jun 1911: Death of Mrs. Nobelius.
Profound regret was felt throughout Emerald and district at the announcement of the death of Mrs. Emily Jane Nobelius, the affectionate wife of Mr. C. A. Nobelius, of the Gembrook nursery, and a very highly esteemed and widely known resident of Emerald. For some time Mrs. Nobelius had suffered from an affection of the heart, and during the past ten weeks had been a patient in Miss Wragge's private hospital, Melbourne. Here she received most careful nursing and unremitting medical skill, and everything possible was done to alleviate her sufferings, but other symptoms developed, and she gradually grew weaker and weaker, and passed away on Wednesday, July 14, at the age of 54 years. The deceased lady had resided with her husband at Emerald for about 20 years, and during the whole of this period had taken a keen interest in all social and other movements that were for the advancement of the district. She was of a very affable and kindly disposition, and manifested always a cheerful desire to assist those homes where sickness or trouble had entered. Indeed, her many charitable and benevolent acts in this direction throughout the Emerald district will long be remembered, as well as greatly missed. The deceased lady leaves, besides her husband, five sons—Oscar, Archie, Percy, Clifford, and Rupert—and three daughters—Mrs. Taylor (Sydney), Ruby, and Stella. The funeral took place on Friday, when a very large number attended the mournful procession, the remains being interred in the Nangana cemetery. The Rev. W. Burvill, of St. Mark's, Emerald, officiated at the grave. ..... (unreadable)....... the employes of the Gembrook nursery, and one from the nurserymens' associations of this and the other states. As a mark of respect, all fixtures at Emerald, such as rifle shooting, band practice, &c., on the Saturday afternoon, were cancelled. The deepest sympathy is expressed with Mr. C. A. Nobelius and family in their irreparable loss.7
