  • 12 Nov 1913: MATRIMONIAL BLACKNEY — SCARBOROUGH.
    A very pretty wedding was celebrated in Christ Church, Hamilton, on Thursday last, when Miss Emily Ellen, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Scarborough, of "Vernon," Chaucer Street, Hamilton, was united in marriage to Mr. Albert George Blackney, third son of Mrs. John Blackney, of Hamilton. The ceremony was performed by the Ven. Archdeacon Harris. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attended by two bridesmaids—Miss Isabel Scarborough, sister of the bride, and Miss Lilian Gunn, a friend of the bride. Mr. C. E. Abdy was best man. The bride was prettily attired in a handsomely embroidered veil. The customary wreath and veil were also worn. The bridesmaids were attired in white guipure embroidered voiles. They also wore prettily trimmed white tagel straw hats. The bride and bridesmaids all carried shower bouquets, made by Mrs. Dunnon. The bride and bridesmaids wore pretty gold brooches, gifts of the bridegroom. At the conclusion of the ceremony in the church, the guests were driven to the residence of the bride's parents, where a very tastefully arranged afternoon tea had been prepared. The Ven. Archdeacon Harris presided, and the usual toasts were honoured. The newly married couple left by the evening train on their honeymoon. The bride's travelling dress was a saxe blue Cynthia cloth costume, the hat being a tastefully trimmed white tagel straw. The presents were both numerous and costly. In the evening the festivities were continued, when a social evening was held, a large number being present. Emily Ellen Blackney5
  • 27 Sep 1950: MR. GEORGE ALBERT BLACKNEY, who had been in ill-health for some time, died unexpectedly at his home, “Riccarton”, Quamby Rd., Beaconsfield, at the age of 60, on September 13th. He is survived by his widow, son and four daughters. Mr. Blackney was born in Hamilton, but had been a well-known resident of Beaconsfield for a long time. His funeral left for Berwick cemetery on September 14th, after Rev. R. G. Mountney, who conducted service at the graveside, had held a service at the home. W. J. Garnar’ and Son were responsible for funeral arrangements.6
