  • 25 Nov 1922: DEATH OF MR. W. RIGGALL
Mr. William Riggall's high standing in his profession, and his intimate, and long connection with many business interests and public activities, had given him a position of prominence such as few citizens enjoy, and it was these circumstances which made the regret at his death last week most deeply felt.
Mr. Riggall, who was in his eightieth year, was born in Lincoln, England, and in 1854, when he was aged 12 years, came out to Tasmania to his uncle, Captain Horton Riggall, the founder of Horton College, Ross. He was educated at that college, and eight years afterwards came over to Melbourne, intending to enter upon a legal career. He was articled in 1862 to Mr. R. W. Nutt, who, at that time, carried on the practice founded by Messrs. Ross and Clarke in the early fifties. Later Mr. Nutt took into partnership Mr. A. P. Blake and Mr. A. Seddon. The firm, as thus constituted, continued until 1874, when Mr. Nutt retired. Mr. Seddon had retired in the meantime, and Mr. Blake took Mr. Riggall into partnership. The firm then became Blake and Riggall, and has retained that title to the present day. On the retirement of Mr. Blake in 1888, Mr. Riggall became the senior partner. There have been some changes in the meantime in the partnership, and the present members of the firm are Mr. L. K. S. Mackinnon, Mr. F. P. Brett. Mr. E. W. Outhwaite. Mr. John Turnbull, and Lieut.-Colonel Harold W. Riggall, C.M.G., who had a distinguished record in the Great War. William Riggall20
