Note | Mr Chambers commenced with the Shire on 1 October, 1933, as an 'apprentice' to the then Shire Engineer, the late Mr. H L. (Les) Keys. He saw war service from 1939 to 1944, including service in Egypt, Crete and Greece. During his war service, he was awarded the Military Medal. He was captured by the Germans, and was a prisoner of war for a long period, before release at the end of the war, when after rehabilitation he rejoined the Shire. On Mr. Keys' retirement he was appointed as Shire Engineer in 1948, although he still had one examination to complete for award of his Municipal Engineer's Certificate, and that was completed in 1948. After Resignation from the Shire, Ron joined the Town Planning Appeals Tribunal as a Member of the Tribunal where he served for many years.5 | |
