Charles Edward MORPHETT obtained a Closer Settlement lease of Crown Allotment 50A, Section D in the Parish of Gembrook. This property comprised the Beaconhills Golf Course. He maintained this lease from c1913 until his death in 1926.

Morphett had served in the Boer War as a trooper in the 3 Bushmen's Contingent.
