  • 19 Jan 1928: BERWICK.
The recent very hot weather has had the effect of giving pastures and gardens a parched appearance. It is not often this district has such an absence of green growth.
Mr. Geo. Brunt’s home at Officer was seriously threatened by the fires of last week, and was only saved by the timely arrival of members of the Berwick Bush Fire Brigade and other residents. Since its establishment a few weeks ago the Brigade has rendered valuable service in the several outbreaks of fire that have occurred.10
  • 12 Jan 1949: Sudden Death Of Officer Grazier. ALTHOUGH he had not been in the best of health, the sudden death of Mr. George Brunt, of “Koonara,” Brunt Rd., Officer, at his home on December 31st, came as a great shock to his wife and his many district friends. Born at Officer 72 years ago, the late Mr. Brunt had lived there the whole of his life, being a successful grazier. He was the youngest son of the late Ralph and Mary Brunt, of “Ghin Ghin Bin,” Officer. Although private, the funeral to the Berwick cemetery on December 31st was very largely attended —a silent tribute to a popular resident. Rev. W. P. Daunt conducted the service at the graveside and the pall-bearers were Messrs. S. and N. Brunt, Milo Bourke, J. Reid, P. De Bret, H. Evans, H. Hopkins, G. Jones, A. Smith and D. Hicks. W. J. Garnar and Son conducted the funeral arrangements.11
